Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Overnight Emergency team. The role includes triage, diagnostics, ICU care, client communication, and discharges as part of an emergency veterinary team.

You will work on an alternating Wednesday through Saturday schedule, with shift differentials for evenings and weekends to reflect the high demands of emergency care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
• Perform radiography and lab work.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Engage with our clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
