Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Monterey, CA seeks a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department on an overnight schedule. Experience with anesthesia and emergency care is valued, but licensure is not required.

The role includes triaging emergencies, performing diagnostics such as radiographs and lab work, ICU/inpatient care, client communication, and discharging patients. Competitive night shift differentials apply.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in Monterey, CA on an overnight basis!

We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant/Technician who knows how to run anesthesia. Not required to be a licensed technician.

Pay: $24 - $36 /Hr

This is a starting point and is dependent on experience based on the Kahuna leveling system.

Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday from 8pm-6:30am (full-time)

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 Shift Differential

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork , etc ), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
