Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is seeking an experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician for our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. You will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, and perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.

We offer a sign-on bonus up to $5,000 for qualified LVT, CVT, RVT, LVMT, or VTS, a competitive hourly pay from $21 to $43, plus shift differentials for nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician responsibilities and duties.
• Must be proficient in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
• Ability to triage emergencies and obtain vitals.
• Experience with digital radiography and patient positioning.
• Competence in phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Capable of calculating medical math and administering meds.
• Proficient in CPR and recognizing arrest risk.
• Mentor teammates and support client communications.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using appropriate equipment.
• Triage emergencies and monitor vitals such as temperature, HR, RR, BP.
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret BP and other vital signs; alert changes.
• Identify arrest risk and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medication dosages and routes accurately.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers; address client concerns.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is hiring an experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

Pay:

$21.00 - $43.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

As an Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
