BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is hiring experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. You will induce, monitor, recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform radiography, and monitor vital signs.

The role offers 3 x 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule with weekend rotation. We value growth, teamwork and compassionate pet care, with opportunities to mentor peers and advance within BluePearl University.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in good standing.
• Experience in emergency/critical care settings preferred.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts on rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using appropriate equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Understand normal ranges of vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and vital signs; initiate CPR when needed.
• Place intravenous catheters and perform phlebotomy.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers and address client concerns with empathy.

At BluePearl Pet Hospital, the role of Veterinary Technician is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that will allow you to utilize the skills that you have worked so hard to gain. We will also give you the chance to expand and grow your skills, all while working alongside some of the most talented veterinary professionals.

As a Licensed Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
