Job summary

The Emergency Veterinary Assistant role in Houston, TX places you at the heart of 24/7 emergency care with VEG. You will support a fast-paced team, comfort pets and parents, and learn on the job across triage, treatments, and monitoring.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Able to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 lbs) with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, catheters, oxygen).
• Support anesthesia and sedation setup with veterinarians and technicians.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration.
• Support care in both outpatient and inpatient settings and rounds.
• Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification through training.
• Grow into advanced roles like anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
