Job summary

VEG is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Austin to support high-volume ER care. You will triage, comfort pet parents, and assist with treatments and diagnostics, while learning anesthesia setup and patient monitoring.

The role offers growth pathways, CPR training, and exposure to advanced procedures through structured VEG programs, with flexible shifts and a focus on team learning.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software understanding.
• Excellent communication with pet parents and team.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Support anesthesia and sedation setup and monitoring.
• Manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medication administration.
• Participate in patient rounds and ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification training.
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training.
• Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
