Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dedicated Dockworker in Indianapolis to efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring accurate placement on trucks. Safety is paramount, with forklift operations and secure loading using airbags, straps, and cardboard.

This role directly impacts on-time deliveries and OD’s promise to customers. You will work in a fast-paced environment, coordinating with service center staff while following DOT guidelines and using yard management systems to track freight

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent.
• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding all aspects of freight transportation.
• Must have knowledge of different loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with, and ability to complete, various forms used in freight movement.
• Ability to utilize the dock yard management system to monitor shipment locations.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack, or manually.
• Transport freight within the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Monitor freight locations using the Dock Yard Management System.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and freight forms.
• Hand load, rewrap or stack freight as needed.
• Secure freight inside trailers with straps and other equipment.
• Maintain safety and quality in trailer loading.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet customer schedules.
