The University of Virginia Facilities Management department is seeking an Overnight Custodian for the Sunday–Thursday shift (11:00pm–7:30am, starting Sunday 11pm). Position Compensation - Starting at $15.00 per hour, dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. This position also receives an additional $2.50/hour for evening shift differential.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with UVA benefits.
Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. Custodians complete special project work as assigned and gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.
Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is preferred. The ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Basic computer, tablet, and/or smart phone usage and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required.
This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and carrying, with the ability to safely handle material and equipment weighing 25 pounds, and occasionally as much as 40 pounds. The position also calls for repetitive motion for reoccurring duties such as dusting and mopping, and while working in various indoor and outdoor environments.
This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
