Job summary

CarMax in Hickory, NC is seeking a Fleet Driver I to transport vehicles and support store operations. You will perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, keep DOT logs accurate, and move cars between locations with a provided truck, always prioritizing safety and reliability.

The role offers consistent night shifts, routes designed to return you home daily, and competitive hourly pay. A valid Class A CDL and a clean driving record are required, along with the ability to work outdoors

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler.
• Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Transport with care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Represent CarMax professionally — interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.
