Job summary

Crisis Center of Comal County in New Braunfels, Texas, is hiring an Overnight Case Aide to serve as the primary overnight support for residents in our emergency shelter. Each night presents unique tasks as you assist with intake, crisis intervention, and creating a safe, caring environment.

You will conduct safety rounds, help with documentation, and coordinate with the daytime team to ensure continuity of care while maintaining trauma-informed, client-centered support for survivors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a social service, residential, healthcare or related environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and electronic documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the 24-hour Crisis Hotline with trauma-informed crisis intervention and safety planning.
  • Welcoming new shelter residents and guiding them through intake and orientation.
  • Supporting adults and children experiencing crisis with compassion and professionalism.
  • Conducting regular safety, security, and wellness rounds throughout the three-story shelter.
  • Monitoring building security systems, entrances, exits, and access controls.
  • Responding appropriately to emergencies while exercising sound independent judgment.
  • Completing timely documentation, shift reports, and incident reports.
  • Helping maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming shelter environment.
  • Preparing the shelter for daytime operations by restocking supplies and completing light housekeeping tasks.
  • Working collaboratively with leadership and the daytime team to ensure continuity of care.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One to two years of experience in a social service, residential, healthcare, behavioral health, or related environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and electronic documentation.
  • Valid Texas driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile liability insurance.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, fingerprinting, drug screen, and driver's record check.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification after hire.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related human services field.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, or other trauma.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent walking throughout a large three-story shelter, climbing stairs, conducting overnight building rounds, responding quickly to emergencies, assisting clients, operating office equipment, and occasionally lifting or moving supplies and client belongings. Candidates must be able to remain awake, alert, and engaged throughout the overnight shift.

Schedule

This is a full-time overnight position. The schedule includes overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional additional hours as needed to support shelter operations.
