Job summary

Amarr in Mocksville, NC is hiring an Overlay Assembler to build custom residential and commercial garage doors. You will read blueprints, follow work orders, and use hand and power tools to assemble components to engineering specs.

This role requires attention to detail, safety, and the ability to work 7am–5:30pm Monday-Thursday. You will participate in quality checks and support continuous improvement in a fast-paced, industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install hardware, overlays, trim, and other door components as required.

The Overlay Assembler is responsible for building and assembling custom residential and commercial garage doors according to blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, and customer requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to safely use hand and power tools to complete high-quality assemblies.

Shift: Monday - Thursday; 7am - 5:30pm

Assembly & Production Operations
  • Build and assemble custom garage door components using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other production equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, diagrams, and specifications to ensure accurate assembly and product configuration.
  • Measure, cut, fit, drill, and fasten materials according to design requirements and production standards.
  • Install hardware, overlays, trim, and other door components as required.
  • Complete assemblies efficiently while maintaining high workmanship standards and production targets.
  • Assist with final inspections to verify assemblies meet quality requirements before shipment.
Materials & Workflow Support
  • Gather, stage, and organize materials needed for daily production activities.
  • Verify materials and components match work order specifications prior to assembly.
  • Report material shortages, damaged components, or discrepancies to supervision.
  • Maintain organized workstations and properly store materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Support production flow by assisting with movement of materials and finished products as needed.
Quality & Safety
  • Maintain a strong commitment to quality by ensuring all assemblies meet engineering specifications, company standards, and customer expectations.
  • Perform visual and dimensional checks throughout the assembly process to identify defects or inconsistencies.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic equipment, and material-handling devices.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe work practices at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or quality concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following housekeeping and 5S standards.
Continuous Improvement & General Responsibilities
  • Participate in training and cross-training opportunities to increase skills and versatility within the department.
  • Contribute ideas for improving productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, engineering, quality, and other departments.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, carpentry, construction, or a related production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and mechanical assembly equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Other Job Responsibilities and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodatione..
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing more than 45 lbs. using team lifting procedures.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift).
  • Ability to safely move throughout the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs and/or ladders as required for job tasks.
  • Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers for operating tools, handling materials, and performing detailed assembly work.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environmental conditions.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail while performing precision assembly tasks.
