Job summary

Simmers Crane Design & Services is seeking an Overhead Crane Technician to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain crane systems at customer facilities. You will perform OSHA-compliant safety inspections, diagnose problems, and coordinate with engineering for repairs.

Responsibilities include on-site maintenance at steel mills, auto plants, and other heavy industrial sites, with travel as needed. Qualifications include 3+ years in related fields and strong mechanical/electrical skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years in industrial maintenance, crane service or related field.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical/electrical equipment; welding preferred.
• Experience as crane technician or related trades preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete service reports.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable for company vehicle.
• Willingness to travel, including overnight travel, as needed.
• Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and emergency calls.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied environments.
• Lift up to 50 pounds; use equipment or team for heavier lifts.
• Commitment to safety and OSHA/NFPA/industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and modifying overhead crane systems.
• Perform safety inspections following OSHA guidelines.
• Maintain and repair equipment at customer facilities (steel mills, auto plants, foundries, etc.).
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems in heavy industrial settings.
• Identify parts, plan repairs, communicate with customer, and coordinate with engineering.
• Document hours and services, complete service acknowledgements.
