MedStar Health is seeking an Overdose Survivor Coach to join the team at Georgetown University Hospital. This role supports survivors of overdose after discharge, helping them access recovery services and plan for safer futures.

The position involves street outreach, patient screenings, motivational interviewing, and coordinating referrals to community resources. A strong recovery background and valid DC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years actively in recovery with a minimum of two years of professional experience in a substance use disorder setting providing peer support/navigation required or
  • Certified peer specialist through the DC Department of Behavioral Health or recovery coach required or
  • Recovery coach required
  • Driver's License - Endorsement P (Passenger) valid driver's license and reliable transportation required and
  • CPRS Peer Recovery certification preferred or attained within 180 days required

Responsibilities

  • Conducts street outreach to locate and engage with patients referred from hospital emergency departments.
  • Conducts screenings to understand the patient's history of drug and/or alcohol use, treatment history, social service and other recovery support needs, and motivation to change behavior.
  • Facilitates patient's readiness for change using motivational interviewing and supports planning for reduction or elimination of drug/alcohol use.
  • Assists patients in setting personal recovery goals.
  • Works with healthcare team and patient to identify community supports and treatment services to promote recovery.
  • Supports patients and families to access community resources.
  • Assists patients in linking to community supports and treatment services including transportation and other resources.
  • Acts as a peer support after discharge from the hospital with face-to-face and phone engagement in community settings.

MedStar Health is looking for an Overdose Survivor Coach to join our team at our Georgetown University Hospital!

The Overdose Survivor's Outreach Program (OSOP) Community Recovery Coach is an integral part of the SBIRT team that is designated to conduct outreach and engagement to survivors of an opioid overdose after discharge and referral from the emergency department. Provides non-clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery and reducing the risk associated with a subsequent overdose. Assists in completing referrals to recovery support and substance use treatment services as well as develops service plans to promote successful linkage to referred services. These functions are performed in accordance all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists patients in setting personal recovery goals.
  • Works with healthcare team and patient to identify community supports and treatment services to promote recovery.
  • Supports patients and families to understand how to access community resources.
  • Assists patients in linking to community supports and treatment services including helping secure transportation and other resources.
  • Acts as a peer support after patient is discharged from the hospital. This involves face-to-face and phone engagement with patients in various community settings.

  • High School Diploma or GED required
