Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent technical training or 1–2 years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to use BisTrack (POS), MS Word/Excel, estimating software at an intermediate level.
• Ability to do basic business math and financial calculations.
• Strong communication, presentation, and follow-through skills.
• Ability to keep customer and company information confidential.
• Willingness to travel within the territory, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Business development and account coverage in the Powell, WY area.
• Travel the assigned territory to call on current and prospective customers; follow up by phone, email, and text.
• Manage assigned contractor and customer accounts and match project needs with products.
• Attend trade shows when directed.
• Quote prices, collect credit applications, and schedule deliveries.
• Read blueprints, estimate quantities, and prepare bids.
• Update quotes and pricing information to keep accuracy; prepare sales reports and maintain records.

Outside Sales Representative (Building Materials)

Powell, WY | Full-time | $50,000 - $60,000 per year + Possibility of Commissions

R.P. Lumber is hiring an Outside Sales Representative to grow contractor and builder business in Powell, WY. This role is for someone who can find new accounts, keep existing customers well served, quote jobs accurately, and follow through.

You will sell lumber and building materials to contractors, developers, property managers, realtors, and homeowners. You will work with the General Manager, Inside Sales, and store teams so orders, deliveries, and pricing stay on track.

What you will do

Business development and account coverage

• - Build a prospect list from referrals, directories, trade activity, online sources, and local market knowledge
• - Travel the assigned territory to call on current and prospective customers; follow up by phone, email, and text
• - Handle assigned contractor and customer accounts
• - Match customer project needs with company products and services
• - Attend trade shows when directed

Estimating, pricing, and orders

• - Quote prices, help collect credit applications, and set up delivery schedules
• - Read residential and multifamily blueprints, estimate quantities, and prepare competitive bids
• - Enter and update quote and pricing information so customer pricing stays accurate
• - Prepare sales and activity reports and keep expense records
• - Protect confidential company and customer information

Store, inventory, and service

• - Work with the General Manager and Inside Sales to keep accounts and sales materials current
• - Help plan monthly, quarterly, and annual volume and profit goals
• - Watch store inventory against customer needs and flag reorder issues
• - Help coordinate commercial deliveries and resolve problems with product, delivery, or service
• - Assist with inside counter sales when you are in the store
• - Perform other related duties assigned by the General Manager

What you need to have

• - Associate degree or equivalent technical training, or 1–2 years of related experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience
• - Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
• - Ability to use BisTrack (point of sale), Microsoft Word and Excel, estimating software, and related business systems at an intermediate level
• - Ability to do basic business math, including rates, ratios, percentages, and simple financial calculations
• - Strong communication, presentation, and follow-through skills
• - Ability to keep customer and company information confidential
• - Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and territory travel as business needs require

Nice to have

• - Outside sales experience in lumber, building materials, construction, or a related field
• - Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical or code information
• - Working knowledge of building products and local building codes

Pay and benefits

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 per year, plus Possibility of Commissions

Potential pay rate based upon region, experience, education, licenses and certifications.

Schedule and work location

This role is based in the field and includes regular travel to customers and jobsites, plus time at the supporting R.P. Lumber location. Confirm the home-store street address with Operations before posting. Weekend and holiday work may be required.
