Job summary

Avail Staffing is hiring an Experienced Outside Machinist for ship repair work supporting U.S. Naval vessels in Hampton Roads. You will bring 5+ years of shipyard experience on ABS/NAVSEA vessels and perform hands-on maintenance of propulsion machinery and related systems.

The role is full-time, with day shifts, overtime, and weekend work as needed. You will work from blueprints and rely on precision tools to ensure high-quality installations and repairs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of shipyard experience on ABS/NAVSEA vessels.
• Experience as Outside Machinist in a ship repair environment.
• Willingness to work day shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align main propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment.
• Inspect and maintain compressors, condensers, pumps, and forced draft blowers.
• Service cargo handling gear, anchor gear, cranes, and davits.
• Work with elevators, conveyors, firefighting systems, and related components.
• Install and repair foundations for ship machinery and major components.
• Test and inspect installed machinery during dock and sea trials.
• Use calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges; assist with optical equipment.
• Work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.

Are you an experienced Outside Machinist looking for a hands-on role in ship repair? Avail Staffing is seeking skilled professionals to support the repair of U.S. Naval vessels in Hampton Roads. If you have 5+ years of experience working on ABS or NAVSEA-certified vessels, we want you on our team!

What You’ll Do:

Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align main propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment, including:

• Compressors, condensers, pumps, and forced draft blowers
• Cargo handling machinery, anchor gear, cranes, and davits
• Elevators, conveyors, firefighting systems, and more

Install and repair foundations for ship machinery and major components of ship armament.

Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.

Use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges, and assist with optical equipment.

Work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to execute high-quality installations and repairs.
