Job Description

Job Title: Outside Machinist

Reports To: Structural Superintendent

Summary

Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align main propulsion machinery and associated equipment, as well as auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, and other machinery and equipment onboard ships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Install and repair foundations for machinery and ship structures.
2. Install, adjust, and repair control and safety devices, and assist in testing machinery during dock and sea trials.
3. Install ship machinery including propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, and steering gear, following blueprints and using hand tools.
4. Install auxiliaries like evaporators, heaters, and condensers, connecting them to steam systems.
5. Test and inspect installed machinery during dock and sea trials.
6. Ensure work safety and quality standards are met.
7. Maintain attention to detail and focus on tasks.
8. Follow all safety and quality protocols.
9. Collaborate with team members to optimize productivity.
10. Report unsafe conditions or practices to supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Willingness to learn, dependable work ethic.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, manuals, and schematics.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.

Working Conditions

• Work within shipyard environments with exposure to temperature extremes, noise, chemicals, and other hazards.
• Some travel required.
