Job summary

ARMADA INC. seeks an Outside Machinist to remove, repair, overhaul, install and align main propulsion machinery and related equipment on ships. The role covers condensers, pumps, valves, cargo handling gear, and other shipboard systems, with testing during dock and sea trials.

The candidate will work from blueprints, read gauges, and use hand tools and precision measuring devices, performing duties across shipyard and customer facilities in Jacksonville, FL.

Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Completion of a vocational/technical school or apprenticeship is a plus.
  • 1+ year of related experience.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Standards (Company may provide).

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and ship armament structures.
  • Install, adjust, set, and repair safety devices; test shipboard machinery on pier or sea trials.
  • Outside machinist installs propelling machinery, auxiliaries, pumps, and steering gear from blueprints using hand tools.

Summary

Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components. Also remove, repair, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boat davits, cranes, elevators, conveyors, firefighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment

  • Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.
  • Install, adjust, set, and repair or replaces various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gages, valves, governors and automatic alarms. Test or assist in testing of shipboard machinery pierside or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
  • Outside machinist Installs ship machinery, for example propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gear, working from blueprints and using handtools, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Installs below-deck auxiliaries, for example evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connects them to steampipe systems.
  • Tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Education And Experience
  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Regularly exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50+ pounds (50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly)
  • Lifting includes from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, waist to overhead
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • May be required to wear a respirator
  • Some travel may be required
