Job description

Under general supervision, provides outreach services to women of reproductive age, newly pregnant women, and women who have recently delivered. These outreach services include addressing the need for smoking cessation, obesity interventions, and sharing information with clients about prenatal care, health insurance, and services for family planning.

  • Meets with and makes presentations to individuals, organizations, and community groups to explain, publicize, and promote the program.
  • Represents the program at health fairs, community events, classes, seminars, and other gatherings. Assists with displays. Assembles and distributes literature, brochures, pamphlets related to program information and breastfeeding promotion and support.
  • Promotes and supports breastfeeding among postpartum women by making telephone calls. Develops and maintains resource lists. Answers telephone inquiries regarding the program and breastfeeding support to the participants of the program. Assists clients in making an application to the program.
  • Collects, tabulates, updates, and maintains program records and statistics related to breastfeeding by program participants. Assembles periodic statistical reports.

May transport clients. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent

Two years of clerical experience, including public interaction.
(Additional education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.)

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications, and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications, and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing advice and guidance to women breastfeeding their children
Completion of the Maryland WIC Peer Counselor Training Program
Ability to speak Spanish
