Job summary

Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. seeks an Outreach Worker for the Milford Drop-in Center to staff the site, provide health education, and help clients access services.

The role includes on-site and street-based outreach across Kent and Sussex Counties, with HIV/HCV testing, needle exchange, referrals, and essential supports. The position requires a Peer in recovery, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be a Peer in recovery.
• Valid driver's license with 2 points or less.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPRS certification preferred; if not certified, within first year.
• Minimum of 2 years in recovery.

Responsibilities

• Staff the Drop-in Center.
• Provide health education and HIV/HCV risk reduction.
• Engage in on-site and street outreach at the Milford/Wilmington sites; include NSP services.
• Act as liaison to link clients to treatment and services.
• Provide wound care and drug checking.
• Maintain professional standards; outreach is community-based.
• Work primarily outside of office; in-home/community visits.

Since 1985, Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. (BCCS) has been a trusted provider of outstanding substance abuse and behavioral health treatment. BCCS is a community organization that prides itself on helping members of our community recover with dignity. We enhance the quality of life by creatively providing Education, Advocacy, Prevention, Early Intervention, and Treatment Services. We promote hope and empowerment to persons and families touched by mental illness, substance abuse, HIV and multiple occurring diagnoses, and their related challenges.

What You'll Do With Us As An Outreach Worker

• Staff the Drop-in Center


• Provide health education and risk reduction activities to persons at risk for HIV and HCV.


• The Outreach Worker is part of a team who engages in on-site outreach programming at the Wilmington site as well as street-based outreach programming. BCCS Outreach programs offer an array of support and resources, including anonymous needle exchange services, free HIV and HCV testing and counseling, pregnancy testing, overdose prevention counseling, information related to reducing risk, referrals to drug treatment, health care, and social services, and access to basic needs such as clothing, showers, and laundry services.


• Act as a liaison between the clients and services, assisting the clients with treatment entry, navigating the steps necessary to successfully link clients to helping professionals.


• Responsible for providing quality, sufficient and appropriate outreach services and for maintaining high professional standards.


• Provide wound care and drug checking


• Outreach Workers are often our client’s first impression of BCCS. Therefore, Outreach Workers are expected to maintain professional standards. This position is with our Syringe Services Program that services Kent and Sussex County.


• This position is primarily a community-based position, so it requires in home and community visits. Work will be performed outside of an office setting on a regular and consistent basis.

Qualifications

• REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED


• REQUIRED: Valid driver's license with 2 points or less


• REQUIRED: Must be a Peer. BCCS employs a diverse workforce, and we especially encourage applications from those who are in recovery. This position requires that the candidate chosen for it is a peer. BCCS defines a peer as anyone who is in recovery from addiction to drugs or alcohol.


• REQUIRED: Minimum of 2 year's in recovery


• PREFERRED: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).


• If you are not certified, certification is required within the first year of employment.

Pay

• Starting at $16/hour


• Commensurate based on experience, education, and certification with the Delaware Certification Board!
