Job summary

Step Ahead Services is recruiting a night support worker to provide emotional and practical support to looked-after young people in local authority care. The role is part-time, 24 hours per week across night shifts.

You will assist with daily tasks, monitor progress, liaise with social workers and other agencies, and help safeguard young people while supporting their education and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Shift duties – night shifts to be discussed
  • Support young people with cleaning, tidying, laundry etc. and checking health and safety of premises
  • Advice on Health and Safety issues
  • To provide practical and emotional support to young people
  • To monitor the young person’s progress
  • To provide advice to young people and relevant information on resources and to refer them on if appropriate
  • To maintain accurate and relevant information on a young person on a weekly basis and to provide monthly report to social worker/Local Authority and any reports needed for court etc.
  • To identify the need of involvement with other services and agencies
  • To regularly liaise with social worker/Local Authority and other agencies
  • To undertake home visits also to families if appropriate
  • To assist social workers with specific tasks in relation to their case work/care plan e.g. attending court, supervising contact between young person and family. Assistance with DSS etc
  • To regularly advise the Manager/Supervisor of SAS of developments and changes in the cases and according to need
  • To attend such meetings, in relation to the young person as required
  • To contribute with the whole team in ensuring that people from ethnic and other minorities are not discriminated against in the access to services, and receive services that are appropriate to their needs
  • To attend, contribute and participate fully in supervision
  • To advocate on behalf of young people
  • To be able to work flexibly and creatively with young people
  • To organise own work and meet deadlines
  • To support young people into training/education
  • To monitor the young person’s progress and notify Manager of any concerns
  • Commitment to equal opportunities
  • Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with a range of people e.g. young people or other professionals
  • To safeguard the YP wellbeing and to raise any concerns in relation to safeguarding to Management immediately
  • To work actively on the YP care plan and to get good outcomes for YP

  • To work on a shift basis if required Monday to Sunday with sleepin duties

1 X Night support staff- part-time in unit – -3-NIGHT shifts per week – 24 hr per week -Monday to Sunday – wages £112.00 per shift (shift timings to be discussed)

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemptions) Order 1986 and the Home Office procedures on disclosures of information concerning convictions also applies.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide emotional and practical support to young people who are Looked After by the Local Authority. Undertaking a range of practical tasks; assisting with assessment and casework processes. To provide advice, support and guidance to young people, and help empower young people to take more control over their lives to become independent.
