• Draws blood specimens following proper procedure.
• Labels all specimens according to policy.
• Transports or prepares for transport all specimens to the laboratory.
• Follow all laboratory and hospital safety rules and universal precautions.
• Monitors patient for negative reactions and takes appropriate measures to allay patient anxiety.
• Greets patient using customer care concepts.
• Verify patient information and in draw station enter information into the computer.
• Responds to inquiries from physician offices, nursing homes or patient.
• Verifies or confirms patients’ orders as needed.
• Maintains appropriate logs or records.
• Participates in the training of new employees.
• Ensures that written physician orders accompany requested tests and ensures diagnosis is present.
• Informs supervisor of any patient or physician concerns for PI trending.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies consistent with usage.
• Covers in all areas of phlebotomy as needed.

Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Graduate of a Certificate program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant.Experience/Skills: Required: 1. Must have reliable transportation and ability to work independently.Preferred: 1. Previous phlebotomy experience preferred Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Work is considered mostly sedentary with frequent standing and bending. Regular exposure to blood and body fluids. May be required to move/lift objects up to 50 lbs. Position requires work indoors in a lab environment.
