Job summary

Dayton Metro Library is seeking an Information Services Assistant for the Outreach Services department. The role involves engaging with older adults and community members to teach technology in group or one-on-one settings, plus occasional storytelling at preschools/daycares.

Requires a valid driver’s license with three years of experience, and willingness to drive Bookmobile and outreach vehicles. The library values multilingual abilities and community engagement across Dayton.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; or 1–2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively and apply active listening.
• Ability to provide one-on-one instruction and conduct public training sessions.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates excellent internal and external customer service; supports children, senior services, and underserved populations via Bookmobile, Lobby Stop, and Homebound programs.
• Assists library users with reference, readers’ advisory, public computers, personal devices, and virtual materials; serves diverse groups in mobile settings.
• Plans, develops, and promotes programs and services to meet informational and recreational needs.
• Provides instruction to patrons and employees; conducts public training sessions in computer applications, devices, and virtual library services.
• Serves as liaison with Information Technology Services; troubleshoots and maintains equipment.
• Selects materials for patrons; performs circulation duties and maps Homebound routes.
• Drives and inspects department vehicles; ensures safety and supports opening/closing routines.
• May assist with collection development activities such as redistribution, purchase suggestions, or deselection.
