Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking an Outreach & Engagement Specialist 2 in Seattle to support housing attainment for unsheltered individuals. You will visit clients where they live, assess barriers, refer to resources, and help them connect to community organizations as they move toward housing.

Responsibilities include intensive case management, coordination with partner agencies, and maintaining HMIS records. A generous benefits package accompanies full-time status.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field or 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in related social services.
  • Experience with Coordinated Entry for All (CEA) and Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) preferred.
  • Experience involving trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, networking, and resource building.
  • Experience with HMIS entries, exits, and reporting preferred.

Location: Pike St. (1101 Pike St, Seattle, WA 98101)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Pay: $34.00/hour

Status: Regular Full-Time/Non-Exempt

The Outreach & Engagement Specialist 2 (OES2) is a housing-focused outreach position directed at homeless individuals living unsheltered in King County. The primary objective of this position is to aid individuals in housing attainment, utilizing the minimum assistance needed to address each household’s immediate housing crisis. The OES2 will regularly visit clients where they live, work with them to identify and overcome barriers to housing, refer them to other resources in the community (mainstream services, benefit services, food assistance programs, childcare resources, etc.), and connect them to established communities/neighborhood organizations once they’ve been housed

Duties & Responsibilities

Outreach Responsibilities
  • Regularly seek out clients living unsheltered in the territory served.
  • Maintain contact with clients while they are working on their housing assessment and housing readiness plan.
  • Provide intensive housing assistance, including:
    • Resource referral.
    • Advocacy between client and apartment managers.
  • Provide formal and informal referral services to community resources.
Case Management Responsibilities
  • Provide expert case management for clients with varying degrees of vocational, social, cultural, and/or medical impairments hindering self-sufficiency, including referrals and linkages that assess and determine employability, job readiness, vocational education and training needs, and economic and social self-support.
  • Coordinate services with other agencies that provide services relating to mental health, employment security, substance abuse, vocational rehabilitation, and developmental disabilities.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Participate in unit staff meetings and in applicable trainings as assigned.
  • Maintain client case records on Wellsky and HMIS, as well as required forms and reports in the prescribed format.
  • Track, analyze, and input data relevant to county, donor, and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other administrative and operational functions as requested.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or similar or 4+ years of relevant experience required.
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in related social services.
  • Experience with and understanding of Coordinated Entry for All (CEA), Rapid Re-Housing (RRH), and city, county, and other partner human services agencies preferred.
  • Experience involving human relations, trauma-informed care, community building, motivational interviewing, networking, and resourcing building.
  • Experience with HMIS entries, exits, and reporting preferred.

Parental Leave

The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave

12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.

Paid Vacation
  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
Paid Holidays

13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
