Job summary

The Whatcom County Auditor's Office is recruiting a Coordinator II – Outreach to lead community education on election procedures, including signature verification and matching signatures in voter files.

The role formats and distributes content across websites and social media, creates multimedia assets, and supports the election management and ballot systems with IT collaboration and reporting as required.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in business, computer science or related field and 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience setting up and maintaining moderately complex websites, graphic design, multimedia content, and communications writing.
  • Experience in community outreach is preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Whatcom County Auditor's Office is recruiting for the position ofCoordinator II - Outreach.

This position fills a critical need in complying with new State mandates relating to elections, including developing a community outreach plan to educate voters about signature verification requirements and the importance of ballot signatures matching signatures in the voter registration files.

Essential Duties of this position:
  • Supports department with community outreach. Conceptualizes, plans, coordinates, creates, films, edits, and/or develops video and still photographic products and other assets and content for a broad variety of media platforms, including but not limited to website, social media, infographics, illustrations, posters and flyers, and educational video with minimal supervision.
  • Creates relevant social media and website content, monitors usage and analytics, complies with county standards, and suggests improvements as needed.
  • Writes, edits, and reviews materials to appear in publications, reports, brochures, presentations, and audio-visual productions. Coordinates changes, ensuring pertinent information is presented to the public in a consistent format.
  • Sets up, maintains, programs, and monitors the election management system and ballot development/counting system. Uses the election management system to create, modify, and merge various tasks and forms to streamline the election process and to meet legal requirements.
  • Works in conjunction with IT and vendors to assure the accurate configuration of specialized election equipment and software and its maintenance and proper operation. Works with IT to coordinate, test and implement technology changes.
  • Maintains, operates, and services Runbeck Agilis envelope sorter and associated databases.
  • Supports multi-media hardware/infrastructure including desktop hardware, scientific hardware, basic server operations.
  • Creates and maintains desktop databases to support functions of Auditor’s office.
  • Acts as the primary technician and responds to assigned technology needs for the Auditor’s office.
  • Inputs data, resolves data issues, develops and produces custom and reoccurring reports as needed.
Supervisor: Chief Deputy Auditor
Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM

Salary Range:
  • $28.69 - $41.36
  • MCBA- Range 130.0

Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

We are required by State Law to list the full salary range. As a public entity and in a union-covered position, we are required to make pay decisions based on experience, qualifications, and equity with other employees. Hiring rate typically is limited to entry to mid of the posted salary range, subject to required approvals.

  • Requires an Associates degree in business, computer science or related field AND three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience, including setting up and maintaining moderately complex websites, utilizing graphic design, operating multi-media, and communications including writing and proofreading.
  • Experience in community outreach is desired.
Preferred knowledge:
  • Washington State statute and administrative rules regarding elections.
  • State and local voter registration systems- VoteWA.
  • Ballot layout and design, applications to create electronic ballot formats and applications for conversion of ballot formats to ballot counting equipment.
  • Experience with Runbeck Agilis envelope sorter, Word, Excel, and other office applications standard to the area of assignment.
Requires the ability to:
  • Create and maintain extensive multiple websites with advanced level web creation software.
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain computer hardware and networks and other equipment; diagnose, resolve and maintain computer software application problems.
  • Type accurately and proficiently with a speed of 40 net wpm.
