Job summary

BDO USA, LLP seeks an Outreach/Communications Coordinator to serve as the liaison to the County Communications team and coordinate public-facing communications and outreach. You will develop plain-language content, support outreach events, and ensure messaging aligns with county requirements.

You’ll manage reviews, plan community engagement activities, track deadlines, and coordinate logistics for events while maintaining documentation for reporting.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in communications or marketing support.
  • Experience supporting government communications or public meetings preferred.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded programs preferred.
  • Experience coordinating translation or interpretation services preferred.
  • Experience supporting ADA/accessibility considerations and plain-language standards preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved communities and community-based organizations preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison between project teams and County Communications; coordinate outreach materials and approvals.
  • Develops and executes strategic communications aligned with federal priorities and agency goals.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support public outreach activities including community meetings and program events.
  • Represent programs at public events with prepared speaking points and inquiries routing.
  • Draft, edit, and format outreach content including flyers, FAQs, emails, and social posts.
  • Track outreach requests, deadlines, event schedules, and maintain calendars and status updates.
  • Coordinate event logistics including venue, signage, materials, setup, and attendance tracking.
  • Maintain stakeholder contact lists and coordinate communications with residents, partners, and CBOs.
  • Ensure accessibility and plain-language standards; manage translations as needed.
  • Monitor issues impacting public perception and compliance with grant terms; escalate risks.
  • Document outreach efforts for reporting; track materials and attendance records.
  • Manage outreach budgets across campaigns and evaluate ROI of marketing strategies.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Summary

The Outreach/Communications Coordinator supports government program delivery by serving as the primary liaison to the County Communications team and coordinating public-facing communications and outreach. This role advises, develops, and executes strategic communications and crisis communications as needed. This role develops accurate, plain-language content for public information and marketing; supports and leads outreach events; and ensures messaging remains consistent, timely, accessible, and aligned with County and program requirements Responsibilities include coordinating reviews and approvals, planning and executing community engagement activities, tracking outreach requests and schedules, coordinating event logistics, supporting stakeholder communications, and maintaining documentation for reporting. The position requires strong writing, editing, organization, and public speaking skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Job Duties
  • Serves as day-to-day liaison between project teams and County Communications and coordinates reviews, approvals, and distribution of outreach materials
  • Develops and executes strategic communications that align with federal priorities and agency/client goals
  • Plans, coordinates, and supports public outreach activities including community meetings, open houses, stakeholder briefings, and program events
  • Represents programs at public events through prepared public speaking, general question response, and inquiry routing to appropriate staff
  • Drafts, edits, and formats outreach and marketing content including flyers, handouts, FAQs, email blasts, website updates, social posts, presentations, and talking points
  • Tracks outreach requests, deadlines, event schedules, and deliverables and maintains outreach calendars and status updates
  • Coordinates event logistics including venue coordination, signage, materials preparation, setup and teardown support, and attendance tracking
  • Maintains stakeholder contact lists and coordinates communications with residents, partners, and community-based organizations
  • Coordinates accessibility and compliance expectations including plain-language standards, required DISCLAIMERS, and translation or interpretation needs as directed
  • Monitors issues impacting public perception, schedules, or stakeholder understanding and elevates risks with proposed mitigation steps; interprets federal guidelines and compliance requirements to identify any compliance risks, escalates for approval as needed, and ensures communications meet grant terms
  • Maintains documentation of outreach efforts including copies of materials, attendance records, photos where permitted, and after-action notes to support reporting
  • Responsible for outreach budgets such as design, media, and translation services; allocates funds across multiple campaigns and evaluates the ROI of marketing strategies

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Administration, preferred

Experience:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in communications, outreach, public engagement, or marketing support, required
  • Experience supporting government communications or public meetings, preferred
  • Experience supporting grant-funded programs, preferred
  • Experience coordinating translation or interpretation services, preferred
  • Experience supporting ADA/accessibility considerations and plain-language standards, preferred
  • Experience working with underserved communities and community-based organizations, preferred

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Certified Public Communicator (CPC), preferred
  • FEMA Independent Study coursework relevant to public information, preferred

Software:

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, required
  • Experience with Canva, preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat, preferred
  • Experience with website content management systems, preferred
  • Experience with social media publishing platforms, preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to include strong editing and proofreading accuracy
  • Ability to translate technical information into plain-language messaging appropriate for public audiences
  • Ability to address sensitive information in written or verbal communications
  • Ability to perform effective public speaking and manage public interactions with professionalism
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, and deadline discipline across multiple priorities
  • Strong organizational skills to include tracking, version control, and documentation retention
  • Ability to support occasional evening and weekend schedules based on outreach event needs
