Job summary

The Rehab Aide (Hospital Assistant 2) at UCSF assists in delivering care to patients seen in the practice across physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. They help with patient flow, transport, rooming, and preparation for evaluations and procedures while adhering to UCSF standards.

Under supervision, they perform duties supporting therapists, communicate with patients and staff, and contribute to department and performance improvement activities, with opportunities

Qualifications

• High School graduation and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
• Prior clinical based experience requiring interaction with patients.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize signs of distress.
• Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
• Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
• Possession of excellent interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and self-initiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient flow in and out of the clinic, supports patient safe transport to and from therapy, and may room the patient.
• Assists therapists in preparation for evaluations, treatment, procedures, equipment and patient care activities.
• Acts as chaperone as needed for therapists. Notifies therapists of patient delays and service issues. Advocates for patients by helping facilitate therapist and clinic punctuality.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, department staff, managers and other UCSF personnel.
• Demonstrates effective time management skills in all aspects of position including patient care activities and clerical duties within a standard workday.
• Maintains clean, well-stocked treatment rooms and areas, including gyms. Maintenance of equipment and supply standards as directed by therapists or appropriate supervisor.
• Assists with clerical duties and reception duties.
