Job summary

Community Healing Centers in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an Outpatient Therapist Intern to support outpatient services, assist in assessments, and help families navigate resources. This is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position under the Clinical Supervisor.

The role offers exposure to a range of mental health services, emphasizes diversity and inclusion, and provides opportunities to grow in understanding the mental health system while collaborating with the outpatient team.

Qualifications

  • Refer to Intern Agreement between university and CHC for details.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license, preferred.
  • Staff are required to be screened for tuberculosis and understand exposure risks.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and implement CHC diversity, equity, and inclusion values.
  • Assist in clinical assessments to determine client mental health needs.
  • Help develop and implement services based on client needs and strengths.
  • Maintain case documentation and record services accurately for regulators and management.
  • Advocate for and coordinate client needs with appropriate agency and community programs.
  • Consult with the Clinical Supervisor and team on treatment issues.
  • Participate in staffing new referrals and ongoing cases.
  • Engage in ongoing staff training and development programs.
  • Support continuous quality improvement efforts as required by accrediting entities.
  • Maintain positive relationships with agency programs and external entities.
  • Perform other duties as defined by the Outpatient Services Supervisor.

Job Summary

Support Outpatient Services Staff in their roles by assisting in administration of services and assessments. Support clients and their families in navigating and accessing community resources. Grow in understanding of the Mental Health System and the varying roles played by different members of the Outpatient Services Team.

Responsibilities
  • Embrace, support, and implement Community Healing Centers vision and values related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Assist in performing clinical assessments to determine mental health needs of clients and their families.
  • Assist in developing and implementing services built upon client needs and strengths.
  • Maintain required case documentation and record delivered services in an accurate and timely manner as required by regulating entities, third-party payers, and management.
  • Advocate for, link, and coordinate client needs with appropriate agency and community program involvement.
  • Consult as necessary with Adult Outpatient Clinical Supervisor, and other team members for input into treatment issues.
  • Participate in staffing new referrals and ongoing cases.
  • Participate in ongoing staff training and development programs.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts as defined by accrediting or regulating entities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all agency programs and staff and with outside entities and staff.
  • Perform other duties as defined by Outpatient Services Supervisor.
Qualifications

  • Community environments are often at high risk for tuberculosis exposure; all staff are required to be screened for tuberculosis and understand that they may be exposed to tuberculosis.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with community/agency representatives.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to operate computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, programs, and services as they relate to the provision of services.
