Job summary

The Northwestern Medicine RN Staff Nurse Outpatient role is full time (36 hours per week) and focuses on delivering safe, compassionate outpatient nursing care within the NM system. The position adheres to the Code of Ethics and aligns with clinical policies to support high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include the nursing process, care coordination, patient and family education, pain management, safe handoffs, and on-call duties, with emphasis on safety and national patient safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required for all new hires after 01/01/2011.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in Illinois with active license.
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
• CPR – Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• CPR – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; ACLS may be required in some units.

Responsibilities

• Nursing process: collect data, identify outcomes, plan and evaluate care.
• Directs care and utilizes any assistants appropriately.
• Engages patient and family in teaching, care planning and discharge planning.
• Ensure patient safety and minimize medical errors per national safety goals.
• Assess and manage pain; educate patients and families on pain relief methods.
• Provide effective hand-offs to the next care team member.
• Accept on-call assignments as required.
