Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN

Overview

Purpose and Scope

The Entry Level Outpatient RN CAP 1 position offers an opportunity to grow within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). You will be responsible for providing comprehensive patient care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Delegation of tasks to care staff such as RNs, LVNs/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians is expected. As part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) team, you will participate in decision-making, education, leadership, and quality improvement activities to improve patient outcomes and facility operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties under supervision, guided by the Clinical Educator or Preceptor.
  • Collect and analyze patient data pre, during, and post-hemodialysis, document findings, and modify treatment plans accordingly.
  • Educate patients and families about treatment options and care plans.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and document appropriately.
  • Assist with emergency response measures.
  • Participate in staff training, orientation, and serve as a resource for the team.
  • Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed.
  • Update nursing assessments and care plans collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Inform patients about transplant and treatment options.
  • Complete CAP requirements for advancement.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
  • Involves heavy lifting, patient mobility assistance, and prolonged standing.
  • May require moving equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance, and lifting supplies up to 30 lbs.
  • Work environment is a healthcare facility with moderate noise and temperature control.
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials.
  • Includes desk work, computer use, and interaction with patients and staff.
  • Travel may be required for training or other facilities.
Supervision & Qualifications
  • Supervised oversight of care staff after meeting training and experience prerequisites.
  • Must have at least 9 months RN experience and 3 months in hemodialysis.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing School.
  • Current state licensure and BLS/CPR certification.
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience; dialysis experience preferred.
