Responsibilities

Summit Oaks Hospital is a 126‑bed private acute care hospital and chemical dependency treatment center located in a picturesque suburban setting. It has been providing quality health care to adult, child, and adolescent residents in northeastern USA since 1902.

The Outpatient Program Therapist performs social services functions supporting patients in meeting bio‑psychosocial needs and achieving optimal emotional health through therapeutic treatment. Program therapists provide basic consultation, teaching, specialized social work services, crisis intervention, short‑term family therapy, and referrals as needed.

*This is a Full‑Time position.

  • Formulate and conduct educational, therapeutic, and/or support groups.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, health‑care team members and community providers regarding patient status and progress.
  • Interact and communicate with community agencies in assessment of and service to patients.
  • Provide liaison and referral services to community agencies and appears in court when requested or subpoenaed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with professional ethics and facility standards.
  • Identify opportunities for the program and participate in performance improvement projects and activities.
  • Assist in the orientation of new colleagues and supervising student interns.
  • Conduct utilization review activities as required.
  • Conduct individual, couples, and family counseling when indicated.
  • Develop and facilitate groups for patients and/or significant others as appropriate.
  • Ensure the treatment plan has specific measurable goals, objectives, and interventions defining actions unique to each patient’s needs.
  • Provide opportunities for patients and families to ask questions, discuss, and explore feelings about prescribed therapies, interventions, or diagnosis.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Child Program rules, protocols, and handbooks guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of children’s stages of development and seek guidance from the nurse in charge regarding behavior norms.
  • Assess patients for behaviors consistent with developmental stages and note any deviations.
  • Relate to child patients in an age‑appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by this position.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a clinically related mental health field.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience in family and group therapies, crisis intervention, and treatment skills preferred; must have strong clinical assessment skills.

License: State license in the discipline (LSW, LCSW, LAC, LPC, LCADC).
