Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation, distribution, and patient information collection. This full-time, day-shift position is based at 2415 N Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32804 and offers growth within a faith-based health system.

The role requires one year of pharmacy technician experience or completion of a technician internship, HS diploma, and RPhT. PTCB/NHA certifications are preferred; familiarity with prescription software is a plus.

Qualifications

• One year of pharmacy technician experience OR completion of a technician internship at AdventHealth in retail or hospital setting.
• High School Grad or Equiv required.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) required.
• PTCB/CPhT or NHA certification preferred.
• Proficient with prescription-filling software and general computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and distributes medications in a timely manner.
• Collects patient information and explains insurance changes or complications.
• Ensures orders are processed, dispensed and delivered accurately and promptly.
• Assists in billing processes and maintains knowledge of insurance changes.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medication names, uses, and basic math for calculations.
• Communicates with patients and pharmacies regarding transfers and issues.
• Maintains inventory and participates in training of new staff.

Job Description:

• Location: 2501 N Orange Ave Ste 122, Orlando, FL 32804
• Schedule: Full time.Weekdays. Hours range from 8:00am to 6:15pm
• Prepares and distributes medications in a timely manner.
• Collects patient information and explains any insurance changes or complications.
• Ensures pharmacists are aware of patient needs and prescription checks.
• Assures orders are processed, dispensed and delivered accurately and promptly.
• Assists in billing processes and maintains knowledge of insurance changes.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the generic names of medications, medication uses, and a good understanding of mathematical principles.
• Communicates with patients and pharmacies regarding prescription transfers, and informs patients of any problems.
• Generates reports, develops presentation, and participates in committees as needed.
• Ensures inventory is organized and maintained properly.
• Assists in the training and mentorship of new staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• One year of pharmacy technician experience, in a retail pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, central fill, or hospital setting OR completion of a pharmacy technician student internship at AdventHealth in a retail or hospital setting, in lieu of pharmacy technician experience. [Required]
• Competent in medical terminology, medication names and medication use [Preferred]
• Proficient with prescription-filling software and other computer skills [Preferred]
• Ability to work under pressure [Preferred]
• Ability to interact professionally with public and other medical staff [Preferred]
• Knowledge of compounding oral/topical medications [Preferred]
• Knowledgeable in all the major prescription insurance carrier reimbursement guidelines and eligibility for coverage by third-party payers [Preferred]
• Previous experience in a managed healthcare organization, medical insurance company, pharmacy benefit management or other healthcare related entity. [Preferred]
• Specialty pharmacy experience preferred. [Preferred]

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Work Experience:

• 3+ retail pharmacy experience [Preferred]
• Experience processing and filling prescriptions [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) [Required]
• PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) [Preferred] OR NHA Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) [Preferred]
