Job summary

The Outpatient Pharmacist at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is responsible for accurately reviewing medication orders and dispensing medications in compliance with regulatory standards under departmental supervision.

This role requires Virginia-Board licensed pharmacist with PharmD, strong attention to detail, and ability to supervise technicians while providing drug information to patients and healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

• Requires PharmD or BPharm from ACPE-accredited college.
• License must be held with Virginia Board of Pharmacy at hire or within four months.

Job description

The Outpatient Pharmacist is responsible for accurately reviewing medication orders and dispensing medications according to regulatory standards under direct departmental supervision. Reports to Manager, Pharmacy Operations - Outpatient.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures safe and effective drug therapy throughout the medication distribution process beginning with the review of physician's orders, accurate preparation of medications and administration of medication to the patient.
• Responds to drug information inquiries from patients and other healthcare professionals.
• Provides oversight and supervision of duties performed by a pharmacy technician and pharmacy interns.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and/or Certifications

• Registered Pharmacist (RPh) with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy required at time of hire or must be obtained within four months of hire.

Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications

• None preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy required at the time of hire.
• At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
• Continuous certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, training, educational and application requirements is required during employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services
