Job description

Summary:

Our Anesthesia/Perioperative PA team is expanding at WMCHealth! WMCHealth Network is seeking Physician Assistant (PA) to provide coverage for our Anesthesia and Perioperative Advanced Practice team at our flagship hospital in Valhalla. We are recruiting experienced PAs who will primarily support our outpatient and ambulatory interventional radiology anesthesia procedure teams in the medical perioperative management of our adult and pediatric patient populations. The primary focus of this team will be medical management and clinical efficiency throughout the perioperative experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-procedural assessments, including history and physical examinations and risk stratification
  • Manage pre and post-procedural medical needs and pain management in recovery areas. Provide both autonomous and team-based patient care for the medical management of perioperative patient populations
  • Evaluate and optimize medical comorbidities (e.g., cardiac, pulmonary, endocrine) in preparation for sedation or anesthesia.
  • Perform venous and arterial line placement/removals; apply pressure/bolster dressings with or without suturing, tube/line care post port placement and biopsies.
  • Assist anesthesia MDs with procedural interventions, all in accordance with appropriate training/competency
  • Perform comprehensive neurological exams on both acute and post-operative/procedural patients.
  • Diagnosing, treating, ordering and interpreting laboratory/radiologic tests
  • Works well within a multidisciplinary team of attending physicians, residents, APPs, nursing staff to ensure optimum quality of patient care
  • Will function as a clinical liaison between Anesthesia, Perioperative Nursing, and Interventional Radiology teams, patients/families and consulting or referring departments
  • Assists with discharge planning, medication reconciliation and follow up care plans
  • Provide follow-up and follow-through in the immediate perioperative timeframe
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have current and active NCCPA board certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current and active NYS PA License, ACLS, and DEA required.
  • Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 2years experience as a practicing clinical PA with a focus in surgical ICU, anesthesiology or within a given subspecialty of anesthesia and/or complexity of medical care.
  • Highly motivated new graduates with anesthesia interest are encouraged to apply.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
