Job summary

Kennedy Krieger Institute is seeking a phlebotomist to provide specimen collection and handling in the Outpatient Clinics. The role requires phlebotomy certification, BLS, and at least one year of phlebotomy experience, preferably with pediatric patients.

Responsibilities

• Provides phlebotomy services for designated site including transporting specimens to lab and obtaining daily results.
• Checks orders for appropriate specimens and ensures accuracy of slips.
• Identifies and verifies patient and collects specimens using proper technique.
• Prints specimen labels and prepares specimens accurately.
• Obtains and records vitals and anthropometrics.
• Assists with examinations, treatments, and procedures in the Outpatient Department.
• Maintains phlebotomy supplies and keeps work areas clean and organized.

This position is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm in the Outpatient Clinics.

• Responsibilities

• Provides phlebotomy services for designated site including transporting specimen to appropriate lab as needed and obtaining daily results of specimens obtained.

• Checks orders for appropriate specimens to be obtained.

• Completes lab slips accurately when necessary and/or checks accuracy of slip.

• Identifies and verifies the appropriate patient for specimen collection and collects specimen using proper technique and standard precautions.

• Prints specimen labels (computerized and addressograph), labels, and prepares specimen accurately.

• Obtains and records weights, heights, vital signs, and head circumference.

• Assists with examinations, treatments, and procedures performed in the Outpatient Department.

• Monitors and maintains phlebotomy supplies.

• Prepares exam and triage rooms prior to the start of clinic and between each patient and escorts patient/family to assigned exam room.

• Monitors the expiration dates on the general medical supplies.

• Cleans toys according to Kennedy Krieger Institute infection control guidelines.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Graduate or equivalent.

• Current national certification in Phlebotomy is required.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required.

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate through Maryland Board of Nursing required.

Experience:

• Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience required.

• Minimum of one year of pediatric experience preferred.

Minimum pay range

USD $17.76/Hr.

Maximum pay range

USD $28.98/Hr.
