Job summary

Brown University Health in Providence, RI is seeking a Physician Assistant to support the outpatient neurosurgery clinic and provide pre- and post-operative care under the supervision of a neurosurgeon.

You will perform duties from pre-op evaluations to minor office procedures, coordinate care, triage calls, and participate in operating room assisting. Licensure in Rhode Island required; neurosurgery experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Graduate of Accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
• Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in the state of Rhode Island.
• Neurosurgery experience a plus but will consider enthusiastic new graduates or APPs in other specialties.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive evaluation and management of patients seen in the outpatient neurosurgery clinic.
• Prepare patients for surgery (pre-op evaluations, history & physical, obtaining medical clearances).
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic work-up, including imaging and labs, coordinating care and prescribing medications.
• Prepare and dictate outpatient clinic notes.
• Serve as a resource to referring physicians, staff, patients and families.
• Provide patient and family education on pre-operative and post operative care.
• Perform minor office procedures including suture removal and wound care as directed by the neurosurgeon.
• Triage patient calls and portal questions and coordinate with neurosurgeon as needed.
• Provide follow-up care and adjust medications per protocols.
• Inform and teach patients about procedures and health promotion.
• Maintain familiarity with coding documentation.
• Interact with inpatient APPs and Neurosurgery residents for continuity of care.
• First assisting in the operating room when needed.
• Provide outpatient cross-coverage to other Neurosurgery specialties.
