Department: Health System Shared Services | Revenue Management
This role codes outpatient medical records to facilitate reimbursement and data collection for the OSU Wexner Medical Center and The James Cancer Hospital. ICD-10-CM codes are assigned for outpatient diagnoses. Codes are applied to records not captured through the charge description master. Medical record data is reviewed for accuracy in EPIC/IHIS before completing the chart. The position involves coding for emergency room, outpatient surgery, outpatient clinic, observation, and other ancillary areas.
The primary responsibility is coding medical records at the end of patient visits, including selecting appropriate diagnoses and procedures. Codes flow from Encoder Software to EPIC/IHIS Resolute Billing system. The staff member ensures complete and accurate coding for reimbursement, research, and planning, adhering to productivity and quality standards, and maintaining an approved work schedule.
