Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to support outpatient clinical operations. The role involves preparing patient rooms, taking vitals, collecting specimens, and assisting physicians with procedures to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate charting.

The position requires a high school diploma, MA certification, and BLS. Prior MA experience and EMR system familiarity (EPIC) are preferred. Some immunization administration and satellite-site coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical Assistant Certification Attestation issued by a governing body (AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification OR obtain within three (3) months.
• 0 – Less than Two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Controls and monitors patient flow to maximize efficient use of providers and exam rooms.
• Prepares medical record for patient visit, confirming accuracy with patient identifiers, entering chief complaint and social history.
• Exercises a high degree of customer service in all interactions with patients, internal and external customers.
• Provides a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for patients and families.
• Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for provider visit.
• Ensures patient and personal safety and completes fall risk assessments.
• Prepares exam room for each patient in accordance with needs of visit.
• Assists with physical exams, treatments and procedures as necessary.
• Performs vital signs and records patient data.
• Performs collection of specimens and/or ensures supplies are ready for provider.
• Performs Point of Care Testing as ordered (e.g., Urine dips, HCG, Strep A, Hgb A1c, glucose).
• Performs quality control checks on equipment.
• Assists with arranging diagnostic testing and procedures under direction of nurse/physician.
• Assist with patient billing by ensuring CPT codes and diagnoses are documented.
• Scans outside paperwork into EMR.
• Manages referrals and prior authorizations as requested by provider.
• Stocks and rotates medical supplies; monitors inventory and expiration dates.
• Participates in unit quality improvement projects; provides administrative support.
