Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an experienced Medical Coder for our outpatient and facility coding needs. You will interpret clinical and diagnostic documentation to assign accurate ICD-CM and CPT codes with adherence to guidelines.

Preferred candidates hold medical coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC CCS/CCS-P). Strong detail orientation and the ability to work independently are essential for timely, compliant billing outcomes.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-CM (current edition) and CPT coding systems.
• Familiarity with third-party payer requirements and CMS guidelines.
• Excellent communication and professional demeanor.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently within guidelines and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Analyze documentation to determine appropriate ICD-CM and CPT codes and modifiers.
• Verify documentation supports codes assigned and resolve missing chart data.
• Participate in audits and performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain coding accuracy and productivity per dept. policies.
• Stay current with coding updates and regulations.
