Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Medical Coder to interpret clinical and diagnostic documentation and assign ICD-CM and CPT codes for outpatient episodes. You will ensure documentation supports codes and adhere to coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-CM (current edition) and CPT coding systems.
• Familiar with third-party payer requirements and federal/state regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and workflows.
• Ability to problem-solve, prioritize workload, and meet productivity benchmarks.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to determine accurate ICD-CM and CPT codes and modifiers.
• Verify documentation supports codes assigned and resolve missing chart information.
• Participate in coding audits, performance management, and training.
• Maintain coding accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines.
• Communicate backlog or documentation issues to the Manager and escalate as needed.
• Adhere to AHA, AMA, and CMS coding and billing regulations.
• Keep up-to-date with coding updates and industry guidelines.
