The RN Procedural Periop is responsible for providing high-quality, skilled nursing services to assist patients in achieving optimal health, functional health status, and safe passage during invasive or interventional procedures across episodic or series of visits. All patients have unique needs, ranging from health to illness, with more compromised patients requiring more complex care. The nurse's practice is driven by patient and family needs, requiring proficiency in multiple nursing dimensions. The RN Procedural Periop may need to demonstrate technical expertise in perioperative, PACU, and procedural areas to support patient care during interventions and procedures.
The goal of nursing is to utilize the nursing process to support patients in achieving an optimal level of wellness as defined by the patient. Through assessment, triage, education, collaboration, and coordination of healthcare and community resources, the RN Procedural Periop assists patients in achieving functional health and safe procedural experiences. The role involves helping patients, families, staff, and systems achieve high-quality, evidence-based, cost-effective, and patient-focused outcomes.
