Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare seeks a Medical Coder to review provider documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes following official guidelines. The role focuses on provider-based E/M visits and outpatient hospital coding to ensure compliant, timely claims.

Follows policies and SOPs, uses encoding software and references, resolves coding edits, and communicates issues to the Coding Lead.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor in Health Information preferred.
• Follows coding policies, procedures, and SOPs.
• Maintains coding quality and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

• Review provider documentation and revise/assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes.
• Research and take action on coding/claim edits.
• Review coding edits and resolve so encounter can be sent to claims.
• Identify and communicate issues related to documentation, coding, or systems to Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
• Perform work queue duties as assigned by Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
• Engage in performance improvement initiatives and department meetings.
