Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is seeking a skilled medical coder to review provider documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS codes in accordance with official guidelines.

Responsibilities include researching edits, ensuring coding accuracy for provider-based E/M visits and outpatient hospital encounters, and communicating clarification needs with providers. The role requires RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC certifications and a minimum high school diploma, with higher education preferred.

Qualifications

• Required CCS-P, CCA, or CPC with 1 year (2000 hours) experience.
• RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CPC certification required.
• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s preferred in Health Information.

Responsibilities

• Follows all coding policies and procedures.
• Uses encoding software and references to assign appropriate codes.
• Reviews and revises code selection based on documentation and guidelines.
• Reviews coding edits and resolves so encounters can be sent to claims.
• Communicates with providers for additional information as needed.
• Identifies issues impacting quality, compliance, or productivity.
• Performs work queue duties as assigned and maintains quality standards.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives and meetings.
