Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare seeks a detail-oriented Medical Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS coding for provider documentation, with emphasis on E/M visits and outpatient hospital-based encounters.

The role requires RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC credentials, 1 year of CCS-P/CCA/CPC experience, and adherence to coding guidelines. You will use encoding software and communicate clearly with providers to resolve coding issues.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required. Preferred Associate or Bachelor Degree in Health Information or a healthcare related discipline.
• RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CPC required.
• 1 year experience (2000 continuous working hours) in CCS-P, CCA, or CPC.

Responsibilities

• Follows coding policies, procedures, SOPs.
• Uses encoding software and references to assign accurate codes.
• Provider-driven coding: review or revise code selections based on documentation and guidelines.
• Non-provider driven coding: assign codes per guidelines.
• Review coding edits and resolve to allow claim submission.
• Communicate clearly with providers for additional information.
• Identify issues to Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager affecting quality/productivity.
• Perform duties as assigned by Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity standards.
• Engage in performance improvement initiatives and department meetings.
