Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Outpatient Coder / TH Medical Records Specialist. The successful candidate will abstract clinical information from medical records and assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS or CPT codes according to established procedures.

They will maintain coding accuracy for compliance and reimbursement while protecting patient confidentiality. Ideal candidates have RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC certification and 3–5 years of direct acute care coding experience, with

Qualifications

• RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC certification required.
• Ability to code independently using established guidelines.
• 3–5 years of direct coding experience in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Abstract clinical information from medical records and assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS or CPT codes.
• Maintain high coding accuracy and uniformity for compliance and reimbursement.
• Query physicians for documentation and collaborate with hospital staff.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient data and adherence to HIPAA requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
