Job summary

Avera Health seeks a highly skilled Coder III to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient charts across facilities. The role emphasizes accurate abstracting, education of junior coders, and denial management support.

You will collaborate with clinicians and HIM/billing teams to ensure compliant coding, quality metrics, and timely chart completion, while upholding ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA within 180 Days
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA within 180 Days
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA within 180 Days
• Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) - AHIMA within 180 Days

Responsibilities

• Review all aspects of a patient's clinical documentation to identify the correct ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes.
• Determine appropriate APC/EAPC and medical coding for outpatient types incl. surgeries, observation, injections/infusions, oncology.
• Possess mastery of outpatient types and code accordingly.
• Serve as subject matter expert for coding topics within Avera.
• Query physicians and staff to ensure full capture of the clinical record.
• Assist with denials management and input for medical necessity appeals using coding guidelines.
• Lead communication between HIM, billing, and providers as needed.
• Maintain personal quality and production statistics per service line standards.
