Job Summary and Qualifications

As a remote outpatient coder, you will work on outpatient coding alerts/edits for procedures such as same-day surgery, observation, wound care, emergency department, and diagnostic accounts, primarily post initial/final coding. You will perform alert/edit resolution activities according to established procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Compiling daily work lists from systems like eRequest and CRT.
• Updating detailed notes in eRequest for unresolved alerts/edits.
• Escalating issues to minimize billing delays.
• Monitoring account aging and reporting to leadership.
• Collaborating with billing, revenue integrity, and Medicare teams.
• Communicating coding revisions.
• Completing MOCK abstracts as needed.
• Assisting in resolving unbilled reasons and hold reasons.
• Potentially performing Coding Integrity Specialist II duties periodically.
• Reviewing work accomplishments and discussing training needs with managers.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of outpatient hospital coding experience in observation and/or same-day surgery.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification preferred.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
