Job summary

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD is seeking an experienced Outpatient Ancillary Coding Specialist. You will code diagnoses and procedures across ER, Ancillary, and Recurring Account charts, ensuring accuracy for billing, compliance, and data analysis.

The role requires ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT proficiency, at least 1 year of hospital coding experience including outpatient Ancillary records, and a coding certification (CCA, CPC, or CPC-H).

Qualifications

• Must have a coding certification: CCA, CPC, or CPC-H.
• Associate degree from AHIMA-approved program with RHIT credentials, or CCA, or CPC/CPC-H credential (AAPC).
• Minimum 1 year of hospital coding experience, including outpatient Ancillary records.
• Advanced hospital coding assessment completed successfully.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, UHDDS, HSCRC guidelines, and ethical coding practices.
• Proficiency in multiple coding platforms and software applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT systems.
• Abstract key data elements for CMS, HSCRC, and other regulatory reporting.
• Code outpatient and recurring accounts across service lines (e.g., JMC-JMC/R, BHS, Outpatient Rehab).
• Ensure coding quality supports reporting, billing, and analytics.
