Job summary

Alterra is hiring for a leadership role in our Snowshoe, WV kitchen. This flex position is 9–11 months per year with housing options on-mountain and potential for travel during off months.

The role oversees up to 30 kitchen positions and requires strong leadership, cost control, and teamwork to ensure quality and safety. Responsibilities include maintaining standards, updating the team on menus and promotions, and coordinating with the Executive Chef to keep margins and menu relevance.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in a related role.
• Managing a high volume quick turnaround kitchen with ticket times under 20 minutes.
• Food Cost Management
• Intermediate food hygiene qualification
• Proficient knife handling and culinary equipment operation
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices
• Resort experience preferred
• Two+ years of post-high school education preferred, culinary education desirable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with regulations, control costs, and maintain standards.
• Keep team updated on menus, promotions, and events.
• Address maintenance, hygiene, and safety concerns promptly.
• Align financial performance with resort objectives.
• Maintain food control systems, margins, and menu relevance with the Executive Chef.
• Perform assigned duties as needed.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Job Responsibilities:

• Overseeing up to 30 positions directly (Sous Chef, Line Cooks, Utility Workers).

• Recruit, hire, train, manage, and develop kitchen staff.

• Manage kitchen operations, quality, and admin functions.

• Foster good communication and relationships across the Snowshoe Mountain.

• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.

• Flexible and resilient attitude towards work situations.

Preferred Experience:

• Managing a high volume quick turnaround kitchen with ticket times of less than 20 minutes
