Job summary

California American Water is hiring a Utility Worker to support outdoor water services. You will perform site preparation, install and maintain pipes and fittings, dig trenches, perform concrete work, and assist with flagging traffic, all while upholding safety standards.

Schedule is forty hours weekly, Monday–Friday, with possible overtime. Benefits include 401(k), medical, dental, vision, disability, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic equipment and materials used.
• Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
• Familiarity with database technology and electronic devices.
• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting over 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare work areas and set up barricades, fencing, and traffic cones.
• Break pavement as conditions allow.
• Load and unload boxes, pipes, fittings and equipment.
• Dig trenches using shovel or other methods.
• Install or maintain pipes and fittings and trim when necessary.
• Tamp and backfill trenches.
• Build rough forms for cement work.
• Act as a flag person to direct traffic.
• Repair waterline breaks and leaks as required.
