Job summary

County of Berks, PA is seeking a Program Assistant to support outdoor recreation programs and special events for the Parks Department. The role involves planning, coordinating, supervising activities, and helping organize concerts, festivals, and community events.

The position may be part-time year-round or seasonal, requiring collaboration with staff and volunteers. A degree in parks and recreation or related field is preferred, with relevant experience and a PA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in parks and recreation or related field.
• One year outdoor recreation-related and customer service experience preferred.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, implementing and supervising Parks-sponsored events such as concerts, festivals, and special events.
• Assist in planning, implementing and supervising outdoor recreation programs and environmental education activities (nature hikes, fishing, geocaching, orienteering, boating safety, workshops).
• Support development of new outdoor recreation programs through research and analysis.
• Manage implementation and supervision of outdoor experiences (hikes, birding, paddling, scouting, cycling, kayaking, winter sports).
• Assist with scheduling and coordinating programs, including information dissemination.
• Identify partnership opportunities to promote outdoor recreation with Supervisor and Director guidance.
• Assist with recruiting, training, scheduling and recognizing volunteers for Parks Department.
• Help train staff on operation of Parks Recreation and Special Events Programs.
• Assist with researching and preparing grant proposals.
• Collaborate with staff to plan special events and recreation programs.
